MasterChef Season 10 Winner Dorian Hunter on What's Bigger Than Winning the $250,000 Prize Money
In honor of its tenth anniversary on the air, the challenges for FOX’s MasterChef were heightened, making it much more difficult for the chef-testants to make it to the finale. The three who managed to impress the judges enough to make it were Dorian Hunter of Cartersville, S.C., Nick DiGiovanni from Barrington, R.I., and San Diego, Calif.’s Sarah Faherty.
The three faced off on Wednesday night with Nick being eliminated after the entrée, leaving Sarah looking as if she might earn the title when judge Joe Bastianich kept talking about how Dorian’s dishes weren’t restaurant-level food but elevated home cooking.
Dorian eventually emerged victorious, taking home the title, the $250,000 prize money, a Viking kitchen, and an opportunity to train in one each of Gordon Ramsay, Aarón Sanchez and Bastianich’s restaurants.
So, had she had second thoughts about her menu choice along the way?
“It’s the finale of the 10th season, you have to take risks,” she tells Parade.com in this exclusive interview. “You have to step out of your comfort zone enough to show your growth, but you also have to show what you know. I can’t be somebody else. I can’t be Sarah and I couldn’t be Nick. Our gifts are very individual. Nick is very innovative; Sarah is a plater out of this world. I come in with flavor and technique geared toward the form of cooking that I cook. I didn’t look at what they were cooking. I think that, for me, I showed my growth. That was the most important to me.”
