The next 2020 Democratic presidential debate will be held at Tyler Perry's new studios in Atlanta.
The debate's hosts, MSNBC and The Washington Post, announced the venue for the Nov. 20 debate on Monday.
In the announcement, MSNBC called Perry's studio a "state-of-the art film and television production facility" that boasts "12 purpose-built sound stages" and "200 acres of green space and an expansive backlot."
The studio space created by Perry opened to plenty of fanfare earlier this year.
Perry revealed at the BET Awards in June that the land where his eponymous studio was created was once home to a Confederate army base.
“When I built my studio, I built it in a neighborhood that is one of the poorest black neighborhoods in Atlanta so that young black kids can see that a black man did that and they can do it too,” the 50-year-old "A Madea Family Funeral" filmmaker said.
"The studio was once a Confederate army base, which meant that there were Confederate soldiers on that base plotting and planning on how to keep 3.9 million Negros enslaved,” Perry told the audience. “Now that land is owned by one Negro."
So far, nine White House hopefuls have qualified for the fifth presidential debate, according to NBC News.
Late last month, MSNBC announced an all-female moderating team for the event, which includes MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell, host Rachel Maddow and White House correspondent Kristen Welker, along with Washington Post reporter Ashley Parker.
This is MSNBC's second turn as a broadcast host of a Democratic debate for this election season. Of the four moderators chosen for the November event, only Maddow, the network's highest-rated host, is a returning moderator.
Activists and sexual assault survivors last month protested at NBC News headquarters in New York and called on the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to cancel the debate.
“The DNC needs to make it clear that they support survivors of sexual abuse and cancel the upcoming 2020 Democratic presidential primary debate on MSNBC until Comcast and NBC News take clear steps to clean up the toxic culture that exists across their networks,” a co-founder of the national women's organization UltraViolet Action, Shaunna Thomas, said in a statement at the time.
The network has been criticized for its handling of scandals regarding Harvey Weinstein and former "Today" show host Matt Lauer.
The network contends it did not kill former MSNBC host Ronan Farrow's Weinstein reporting and took swift action against Lauer when allegations came to light in November 2017.
Side Note....Okay the debate says November 20th on a Monday but the 20th is on a Wednesday not Monday.
