Garcelle Beauvais Becomes First Black Woman to Join Real Housewives of Beverly Hills
Garcelle Beauvais is the first Black woman to join the cast of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Although the Real Housewives of Atlanta is the ratings leader, the RHOBH is considered the most prestigious of the Bravo franchises.
"I am excited and proud to be joining the cast of such a wildly popular and beloved show like The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Beauvais said in a statement to Bravo's The Daily Dish.
After decades of working bit parts in movies and TV, Beauvais has finally arrived.
"As a working actor who has been in the industry for some time, it's exhilarating to have the opportunity to delve into a new chapter in the entertainment spectrum. As the first African American Housewife in the Beverly Hills franchise, I am honored and humbled by this awesome opportunity to exemplify the fact that Black Girl Magic lives and thrives in every zip code!"
The 52-year-old beauty was seventeen when she began modeling for companies like Mary Kay and Avon. She got her first big break as the girlfriend of the late singer Luther Vandross in the music video "Take You Out."
She also played Fancesca on The Jamie Foxx Show and Valerie Heywood on NYPD Blue.
Beauvais, who is Haitian, is a divorced single mother of twin sons, Jaid and Jax Nilon. She also has an adult son from her first marriage.
