Grammy Nod......
Taylor Swift secured three nominations for the 2020 Grammy Awards on Wednesday, including song of the year. But many of her fans were focused on the nominations she missed out on, taking to social media to express frustration over her snub.
"Lover," which was released just before the Grammy eligibility cutoff in late August, failed to land a best album nod, but showed up in best pop vocal album. Meanwhile, her pro-LGBTQ anthem "You Need to Calm Down" eked out a nomination for best pop solo performance, but missed out on record of the year.
Swift's dedicated fanbase is making one thing clear on social media: They can't believe "Lover" didn't make the cut for album of the year.
"I really think @taylorswift13's #Lover album was her best one yet," user @rehinagrasia tweeted. "I'm so affected it's not included in Album/Record of the Year"
"So disappointing," @falsegod8800 added. "It hurts my heart."
"Taylor Alison Swift didn’t make lover aka the most critically acclaimed and selling album of the year for y’all to snub it like this," @thewayswiftyou tweeted at the official Grammys account.
"ok but lover and persona were the albums of the year so what now," wrote @eleanorbate, also referencing the album by K-Pop group BTS, which was shut out of nominations entirely this year.
Swift, a 10-time Grammy winner, made history when she became the first female artist in the awards' history to win album of the year twice, for "1989" and "Fearless" (a feat also managed later by Adele, with "25" and "21").
But the Grammys' love for Swift has cooled recently. Her divisive "Reputation" earned just one nod in 2018 for best pop vocal album, and this year, she garnered only three nominations: song of the year for "Lover," best pop solo performance for "You Need To Calm Down," and best pop vocal album for "Lover."
Some fans online pointed to the commercial success of "Lover" as reason enough that it should be in the running. When the album was released in late August, it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album charts with the biggest sales week since her previous album, "Reputation," was released in 2017.
"HOW MANY TIMES DOES @taylorswift13 HAVE TO OUTSELL EVERYONE ON THE YEAR SHE RELEASES AN ALBUM TO PROVE HER WORTH FOR THE #GRAMMYS?" wondered @fragmentationer.
Others showed support for Swift by focusing on the positives, like the artist of the decade award she's about to receive at Sunday's American Music Awards.
"'ARTIST OF THE DECADE' IS STILL BETTER THAN 'ALBUM OF THE YEAR,' PASS IT ON," user @darwisyswift_ wrote.
Or that she has the only self-written song in the song of the year category.
