Ryan O'Neal's younger brother dies at 77: Kevin O'Neal, who had a role in 1970's Love Story, passes away of natural causes at his home in California
Ryan O'Neal's younger brother has died at the age of 77 of natural causes.
Kevin O'Neal passed away in his sleep at his home in Thousand Oaks, California on Saturday, according to Ryan's 55-year-old sportscaster son Patrick.
Like his older brother Ryan, 81 - who was in the massive hit films Paper Moon and Love Story - Kevin worked as an actor in Hollywood.
His most notable role was in 1958's No Time For Sergeants.
His death was announced by his nephew Patrick on social media.
'My dad’s brother, Kevin O’Neal, died Saturday morning (1/28/23). My uncle passed in his sleep and didn’t suffer for which we are thankful,' he wrote in an Instagram caption that went with some flashback photos of Kevin with Ryan.
'Kevin had a wicked sense of humor, just like his older brother, and we have his stories to keep him in our hearts forever,' Patrick added.
'When Kevin walked into a room you heard him before you saw him. That energy and personality is an old O’Neal trademark. Heaven better be ready for him!'
His biggest role came in 1964 No Time For Sergeants starring Andy Griffith.
Later he made appearances in the hit TV shows Gunsmoke, Bonanza and The Mod Squad.
And he played Yale opposite Elvis Presley in 1969 film The Trouble With Girls.
He stopped working in Hollywood in the late 1970s. His last film was 1975's At Long Last Love with Burt Reynolds and Cybill Shepherd; he had a bit part as the telegram bellboy.
He is survived by son Garrett; brother Ryan; niece Tatum; and nephews Griffin and Patrick.
