ROSEBURG, Oregon — At least seven people were reportedly killed and more than 20 others injured in a shooting at Oregon’s Umpqua Community College on Thursday morning, Oregon State Police spokesman Bill Fugate told CNN.
CNN reported that the shooter, a man, had been “neutralized.” More information about the shooter was not immediately available. UPDATE........THE SHOOTER WAS KILLED FROM CBS NEWS.
Ray Shoufler, Douglas County Fire Marshal, told CNN the shooting occurred in at least one classroom in the science building. There is a very strong indication the shooter posted online prior to the incident, CNN reports. Investigators are examining social media postings made by a man, thought to be in his late 20s, who they believe is the suspect in Thursday’s shootings.
Multiple ambulances were seen bringing patients to Mercy Medical Center in the area, NR Today reports.
Roseburg is a city of about 22,000 people located about 70 miles south of Eugene, Oregon, and some 180 miles south of Portland.
The college is located on the North Umpqua River and serves Roseburg and the greater Douglas County area. There are eighteen buildings on campus. Its website was down Thursday, and a phone message left at the school wasn’t immediately returned.
