RuPaul’s Daytime Talk Show Gets June Premiere Date
RuPaul Charles’ new daytime talk show has been given a limited three-week test run on Fox-owned stations this summer.
The show, titled “RuPaul,” will air on select Fox Television Stations — including WNYW FOX 5 in New York and KTTV FOX 11 in Los Angeles — every weekday for three weeks starting June 10.
Produced by Warner Bros. Television’s syndicated arm, Telepictures, the show is described as the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” host’s “modern take on the talk format.” It will see the drag queen-turned-TV host sitting down for interviews, discussing pop culture and providing beauty and makeup tips.
“The Oprah Winfrey Show” alum Jill Van Lokeren is executive producer alongside Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato and Tom Campbell of World of Wonder.
“Now more than ever before we need a global voice that will help everyday people navigate this unique time in history,” Charles said in a statement. “Not only do I want to be a part of that conversation, I want to help facilitate it.”
“Part of the appeal of doing limited series is the freedom it allows to try something really different. That’s this show,” said Frank Cicha, executive vice president of programming for Fox Television Stations.
RuPaul previously hosted the variety/talk show, “The RuPaul Show,” for VH1 in 1996, along with frequent collaborator Michelle Visage. He and Visage currently serve as host and judge, respectively, on the network’s drag queen competition show “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
The host also has a presence on scripted television, having recently co-starred on the short-lived Netflix comedy “Girlboss” and played a recurring role on the most recent season of Comedy Central’s “Broad City.” He is next set to write, star in and executive produce “AJ and the Queen” at Netflix with Michael Patrick King.
Warner Bros. TV is also developing a RuPaul biopic series at Hulu from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and “Drag Race” producers World of Wonder.
