Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Super Bowl LIV saw a dramatic comeback by the Chiefs and a long-awaited championship for veteran coach Andy Reid. It also emphatically put Miami back on the map as a Super Bowl host. ‘This was a great week for South Florida,’ Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said. MIAMI GARDENS — It was a night the NFL sweated 100 years for, a night the Kansas City Chiefs worked 50 years for, and a night South Florida waited 10 years for. Super Bowl LIV wasn’t just a crowning achievement for the Chiefs on Sunday night. It was a fitting climax that gave everyone what they were looking for — except, that is, the San Francisco 49ers, who saw a 10-point fourth-quarter lead evaporate in a barrage of Chiefs touchdowns, ending with a 31-20 Kansas City victory. Hard Rock Stadium, looking spiffier than ever, delivered for Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, who pumped a half-billion dollars into stadium renovations to bring the Super Bowl back to South Florida for the first time in a decade, but for the record 11th time overall. By the end of the night, it was a beautiful mess — red and gold confetti obscuring half the field in honor of the Chiefs and coach Andy Reid, a sentimental favorite of many with 222 previous career wins — but none in a Super Bowl until now.
