‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ Officially The Biggest Video Game Adaptation Ever After 2nd Weekend Box Office Hits $678M
The box office for “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” just keeps on growing.
On Friday Variety reported that the CGI-animated blockbuster surpassed $500 million at the box office worldwide, but that number has grown substantially over the weekend.
According to Deadline, the film is projected to exceed $678 million after its second weekend of release.
As a result, “Super Mario” is now the most successful movie in Hollywood history to be based on a video game, outpacing the box office takes of “Warcraft” and “Pokémon: Detective Pikachu”, which raked in $439 million and $449 million, respectively.
As Variety points out, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” has so far brought in $260.3 million domestically and $248.4 million internationally, for a worldwide total of $508.7 million as the film approaches its second weekend of release.
Thanks to those phenomenal ticket sales, the film has officially surpassed “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” to become the highest-grossing movie of 2023.
