Kathy Etchingham, former girlfriend of Jimi Hendrix, has slammed the biographical film, Jimi: All Is By My Side, for it's inaccurate portrayal of both her and her relationship with the musician.
What she claims is this about the new bio on Jimi :
She denied the depiction of their relationship as abusive, instead describing it as a fun time in her life. She said she remembered Hendrix as a gentle and entertaining person.
'If it's that bad, I've got no choice,' she said regarding her decision to take legal action. 'If I don't, it'll just get repeated and repeated and it'll become the truth.'
Roger Mayer, one of Hendrix's close friends, has also slammed the movie's depiction of Ms Etchingham and Hendrix's relationship.
'It seems these naughty filmmakers haven't researched anything properly,' he told Variety.
Here they are together :
The biopic, written and directed by the award winning writer of 12 Years A Slave, John Ridley, also failed to consult Ms Etchingham before portraying her in the film.
Explaining how her portrayal was completely inaccurate, Ms Etchingham said the film even got her background completely wrong.
'Firstly, I am not from Manchester. I am actually Irish … my father's family were prosperous Irish landowners and owned property in Dublin and Wexford. They could not be described as working-class,' she said, discrediting the characteristics the film portrays her with.
'I am not prone to swear all the time. I was not a 'wild child' like other 'rock chicks.' My friends used to tell me how sensible I was.'
Initially, she had contacted the writer and director to offer her help for no cost.
But after hearing nothing in return, she sent a legal letter in regards to her portrayal.
'They sent me a horrible letter back threatening me with legal action under their First Amendment rights to say what they like about me. They said we thoroughly research all living people. My lawyer wrote back and said "if you thoroughly researched them, you didn't actually speak to Kathy".'
You have to wonder why some of these made for TV and Movies on the big screen don't want those who were there to help make the films more believable.......Candy
