It's about Lupita Nyongo who was amazing in her role as a slave woman who was favorited by her slave owner but the only thing I was noticing is how she was hardly in the movie at all yet she won an Oscar. I am not taking away from her winning the award not at all but it was so odd that yes like I said was great and she showed talent but not enough role play to have won an Oscar just my view. I was sitting there waiting for her part and she came up about 8:38 into a 8:OO PM start. Lupita had a little more scenes and very hard scenes it broke my heart when she had to be whipped for only going into town to buy a bar of soap and her master didn't like it so he beat her and he didn't at first he let the other lead star in the movie do his dirty work but when he wasn't whipping her hard enough he then did it but that scene was really hard to watch a few more scenes but other then that Lupita wasn't in the 2 hour and 15 minute film. The movie itself was very good yet so sad to see as an African American woman seeing one scene where the lead star who was playing the role of Soloman Northup was beat so bad I cried the whole storyline was painful director Steve McQueen did an amazing job the film itself was and is moving I just couldn't get why Miss Nyongo's role was just a little lost yet she was good but I'm just thinking out loud again.
Great Movie it was on HBO if anyone else didn't catch it now you can on Demand.

The pain of a race of people who's only crime was being the color of many rainbows how sad.

It was more about the depth of her role than the amount of minutes she was on the screen. When I learned of her nomination, I never thought about how short her role was. I just remember it being so profound and I believed she deserved the nomination. And I believe she earned it.

I wasn't coming down on her work read what I meant I was just stating the fact that I didn't see more of her work she was good I wanted more. Please don't take me wrong Marian it reads like you didn't understand my view. It was shocking too me that I just felt like her role wasn't there enough for me and her award was giving with great respect I like Lupita to see dark skin sister doing anything in Hollywood is worth the subject matter of what I was trying to say here. I will go there and it was in the Speak Your Mind thread where whatever is on anyones mind you can say what your thinking like out loud and so I just noticed how even though she was in this very strong movie I needed more that's how good she was.
Hope this cleared up what I was saying not to down her but wanting more.

Well I think I understand what you were saying. Aren't you saying that because her time on screen was so short that you don't understand why she was nominated for best supporting actress?

No I didn't see this movie until last night I hadn't seen her role or what was what till last night and in viewing her role I saw she had little scenes which was surpring too me she was nominated yes and when I saw her work I wanted more just more scenes you know how we get our Oscars either by killing or being a crazy mother or rapping to a bad nominated song her work was seen as good or she wouldn't have gotten the Oscar now all I am saying was I wanted more even though she won. I heard about her then when the time came to see her winning role as painful as it was I can't say this enough I just wanted more that's all. See I know she was good she can act I guess what I am trying to say when she got the award then when seeing her I felt she could have gotten way more scenes unless it went on the cutting room floor. I couldn't wait to see her and she did well.

You will like it I'm sure but it's a painful reminder of how slavery was to blacks.
