No matter what, celebrity biopics inevitably stir up issues as they try to bring someone’s life to the screen. No one is more aware of that than the producers of “Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B,” the Lifetime movie airing Saturday night about the superstar singer who died in a plane crash when she was 22. Trouble started brewing this summer when Aaliyah’s family told TMZ and the New York Daily News that they didn’t think Lifetime was the right venue for Aaliyah’s life story — and declined to hand over the music rights. Then, Zendaya Coleman, originally cast to play the star, dropped out of the movie, putting production on hold. Eventually things got back on track: The network cast Alexandra Shipp in the leading role, and scheduled Nov. 15 premiere date. But the movie, which chronicles Aaliyah’s rise to fame as a teen, also struck a negative chord with fans when they revealed it would include some salacious details, including her reported marriage to R. Kelly at age 15. Damage control time! Filmmakers got on the phone with reporters recently to try to calm fears about the film. Executive producers Howard Braunstein and Debra Martin Chase, along with author Christopher Farley (whose book “Aaliyah: More Than a Woman” was the basis for the movie) explained that they aimed to create a very tasteful tribute to a star who “led an incredible life in 22 short years.” Cue the avalanche of questions about Aaliyah’s family’s disapproval and the fact that they don’t have rights to the music. To clarify: While the movie couldn’t use original Aaliyah recordings, they were able to obtain publishing rights, so Shipp recorded covers of the songs. Producers promised that roadblock didn’t impact moving forward with the movie. “We’re trying to honor this woman and tell this story of this journey and her overcoming obstacles,” Farley said. “We felt we had enough of the music to still make a terrific film, and we’re excited to tell the story we were telling.” Tomorrow night is the bio of late singer Aaliyah so if anyone would like to discuss this feel free I hope we'll all tune in I know I will.

Okay the kids came over and wanted to watch this movie so we did. I do remember her but not much about her career or death. Don't know what I was doing during that time....probably having babies. But I've heard all the talk about her and R. Kelly. Her death was a tragedy.

Okay here's my view on last nights biopic on Aaliyah...........The young woman who played her was on point a few things that Babygirl was known for was missing from the young woman who played her small things like when Aaliyah would dance she was known for the belly dance moves that was missing and she danced just a little more then the star did but all and all she was real right down to her hair and clothing. But my sister who came over to watch it with me didn't think the ones cast in the other roles looked like the ones that were being portrayed I must say she didn't like R Kelly's casting but the guy could act though the Damon Dash dude wasn't like him either but his role wasn't played badly there was some likeness in him too me. I found that Aaliyah was a grand lady in our times she was such amazing young woman very sweet and respectful she lived with her parents then moved to NYC where her family comes from and she was born here so it fit her lifestyle. All she ever wanted was to be a Star and she did her family wanted only to support her career I did know Gladys Knight was married to her mothers brother so she helped in guiding a younger Aaliyah it was her steppping out into the world of music. Her Star Search performance was so cute she didn't win though but you could tell she was on her way for bigger and better things. R Kelly smoothed his way into her life she was a young girl of 15 he knew what to say and he melted her young heart and yes they did get married I could see how he did it he likes young girls as we all have heard in the news so he saw Aaliyah and that was it. Her father was so upset when he found out what they had done in getting married her parents were very upset so that marriage was annulled before the ink dried on the paper. She was very close to her brother she loved her fans and she found love with Damon Dash founder of Roc-a-Fella Records but that was cut short when her small plane carrying 9 on board were killed August 25, 2001 during take off. The world was shocked no one could believe she was gone in such a short time of her life Aaliyah was only 22 years old. Her story last night was sweet well acted even though there wasn't much likeness I didn't let that let me see how a young woman like her had dreams had a nice sweet spirit then in only 7 years of her fame she was taking away from her family, friends and fans. If I had to give Lifetime a rating I would say a seven out of ten it wasn't so bad I saw Wendy Williams production was behind it and from what I am seeing the people weren't too happy with it and the online factbooks and twitters weren't feeling the casting because of some not looking the parts but you all who haven't seen this Lifetime Movie will have to judge for yourself I did and for 2 hours it was fine no shockers but fine.
My review from last nights TV Biopic on Aaliyah.
C........Sidenote the family who handles her Estate didn't release her music only some tunes were allowed that was a miss to make it more real that was a big problem it felt like it had a big open in the scenes that wasn't filled.

I know right that Michael Jackson VH1 Movie was way worst and he was still with us when that mess was made. Today Wendy Williams will have to address the film she was so proud to do but the fans and the whole internet was not.
