Selma is a 2014 American drama film directed by Ava DuVernay and written by DuVernay and Paul Webb. The film is based on the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches led by James Bevel,[1][2] Hosea Williams, and Martin Luther King, Jr. of SCLC and John Lewis of SNCC. The film stars David Oyelowo as King, Tom Wilkinson as President Lyndon Johnson, Common as Bevel, and Carmen Ejogo as Coretta Scott King.
Pathé financed the film, and Plan B Entertainment and Harpo Productions co-produced the project. Paramount Pictures will distribute Selma in the United States and Canada.
Selma premiered at an American Film Institute event on November 11, 2014, and will receive a theatrical release in the United States on December 25, 2014.

Finally got to see this movie and I was in awe for 128 minutes. Best actor nomination should have gone to David Ayelowo. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that the Civil Rights Movement was really not that long ago, but given everything that’s been going on in our society over the last few weeks and months it seems that we are in need of a history lesson and Selma delivers. There’s no better time than now for this movie to be coming out and it’s not only worth seeing but important to see. In my community there are a few churches who are footing the admission cost for any high school student who shows their ID at specified box offices. Definitely a thumbs up.
