The Rolling Stones teased us with cryptic billboards and a #SatisfactionThursday hashtag, but did the rockers speak too soon? It sure looks like a delay has postponed an official announcement of a 2015 North American tour.
An issue with the nationwide promoter's ticketing was being blamed for the delay in the announcemen, Nashville news station WKRN reported.
Nashville Mayor Karl Dean indicated an announcement about a Nashville stop would be made at 11 a.m. Thursday — noon in Tampa — WKRN reported, but a source in his office later told the station the announcement had been postponed ( tbtim.es/fma).
This afternoon, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said a spokeswoman emailed, "There is no announcement scheduled at this time. When we have information will of course let you know."
Excitement was bubbling this week when cryptic billboards with the Stones' iconic lips logo and messages such as "Satisfaction" or "Let's Spend the Night Together" popped up around Tampa Bay and Orlando, as well as dozens of cities around the country hinting at a Thursday announcement.
One of the electronic billboards near Roosevelt Boulevard and Interstate 275 changed to "You Get What You Need," prompting Tampa fans to expect a tour stop.
On tour will be Mick Jagger, 71, lead singer since the band formed in 1962 with Keith Richards, 71, on guitar. Charlie Watts, 73, on drums and relative youngster Ronnie Wood, 67, on slide guitar since 1975. Former member Mick Taylor, 66, has performed with the Stones in their 2013 "50 and Counting" tour and could be added to the 2015 tour which is said to feature their classic 1971 Sticky Fingers album.
Negotiations typically continue right up to official announcements on big tours, so a Tampa stop wasn't certain.
Earlier this week the band put out the hashtag #SatisfactionThursday, and fans can register for alerts on the site justakissaway.rocks.
Several digital billboards flashing the Stones message have been seen on Interstate 275 in St. Petersburg and near the West Shore exit in Tampa near the Howard Frankland Bridge.
The website songmango.com was reporting that a tentative tour includes a June 13 stop in Orlando and June 17 in Nashville — plenty of time to squeeze in a Tampa stop as the tour evolves, no?
