Singer Sinead O'Connor was found safe on Monday, not long after Chicago-area police began a search after she failed to return from an early-morning bike ride in the suburb of Wilmette on Sunday, May 15, reports Reuters.
According to TMZ, police issued an alert deeming Sinead "missing suicidal" after she took off on a motorized Raleigh-brand bicycle outfitted with a pink basket. A "concerned caller" reportedly raised the alarm.
The concern about the Irish star's potential to harm herself likely stems from November of last year, when Sinead wrote on social media that she was intentionally overdosing on pills and accused her family of ignoring her.
"The last two nights have finished me off. I have taken an overdose," Sinead, who has been diagnosed as bipolar, wrote at the time.
"There is no other way to get respect. I am not at home, I'm at a hotel, somewhere in Ireland, under another name. There is only so much a woman can be expected to bear. After everything I've been put through, and been forced to go through alone, they wouldn't know if I was dead until weeks from now."
She was later hospitalized and continued to post on social media about her family, including her children, begging them to visit her.
The "Nothing Compares 2 U" singer has also said she tried kill herself on her 33rd birthday.
After she left for her ride on May 15, Sinead posted a strange message to her eldest son Jake on Facebook.
"Jake, kindly go to the court on Tuesday and take custody your brother from Tusla," she wrote, according to ET. "My lawyer will be making the illegal way yourself and Donal got him into Tusla (lying to the cops etc) known to the judge. Expect to be in trouble. In fact, you'd best bring a lawyer of your own. And do not abandon your brother or any other of my babies again. What you have done to your brother and your mother is LITERALLY criminal."
In another message, she said she was "heading down South for several weeks" and implied she planned to protest North Carolina's controversial bathroom law.
Two days earlier, she'd sent this open letter to her son, Shane, presumably the child she was asking Jake to take custody of:
"Baby, I've been trying to get you out of care but Tusla are being monsters. I have to back off because they are hurting me so badly. I get unwell again if I go near them," she wrote. "The best thing I can do is advise you to get a solicitor of your own -- which you are now entitled to because you are 12 -- and bring a case of your own against Tusla, under the children's rights clauses of the constitution."
"You want to be with your mother and you're being prevented. Your mother is being bullied so badly by Tusla [that] she can't manage your release. Your lawyer will have to do it for you. If no one wants you to come to me, then insist on going to Jake. You deserve better than the way you're currently being looked after."
Sinead recently made headlines when Arsenio Hall sued her after she accused him on social media of supplying Prince with drugs prior to his death, which remains under investigation.
"Anyone imagining Prince was not a long time hard drug user is living in cloud cuckoo land," she wrote. "Arsenio I've reported you to the Carver County Sherrif's [sic] office. Expect their call. They are aware you spiked me years ago at Eddie Murphy's house. You best get tidying your man cave."
The comic and former talk show host quickly filed a $5 million suit against her in Los Angeles on grounds he did not drug her, that she barely knew Prince and that her comments were "extraordinarily damaging" to his reputation, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
