NEW YORK - If you're headed out to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this week, the NYPD promises there will be a big security presence. Police Commissioner James O'Neill says robust security measures will be in place on Thursday. O'Neill says security will involve a mix of traditional police and counterterrorism teams along the parade route. The Sanitation Department also plans to provide trucks filled with sand that will block off certain streets. "It is a very large detail. I think this year you're going to see a lot more blocker cars, and sand trucks on the cross streets. So I think the weather might be a little iffy, but it's still going to be a great day," O'Neill said. The police department decided to boost security for the parade after the Islamic State published an article suggesting the event would be a good target for terrorists. But there have been no specific threats made against the parade.
