Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network recently announced that it will be broadcasting the Idris Elba-starring biopic, Nelson Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
With its television premiere date scheduled for some time in 2017, OWN president Erik Logan released the following statement.
We couldn’t be more honoured to showcase this powerful film to the OWN viewers. Nelson Mandela was Oprah’s hero, and ultimately, the inspiration behind Oprah’s school in South Africa. His story of forgiveness and redemption is a gift not only to the people he touched, but to the world.
Back in September 2013, OWN also acquired rights to be the first network to premiere Weinstein Company’s The Butler for an unlimited period.
