Former NY Giants great Michael Strahan makes first cut for Pro Football Hall of Fame
Last year, Strahan made the final 10, but was eliminated in the vote to five. Strahan, 42, who won a Super Bowl in his final season with the Giants in 2007, holds the single-season sack record with 22.5 and had 1.5 sacks in his career.
Michael Strahan could be named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2014 on Feb. 1.

Former Giants defensive end Michael Strahan moved one step closer to being introduced before Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2014 when he made the cut from 25 to the final 15 on Thursday night.
Strahan barely missed being elected in his first year of eligibility in 2013, but is one of the favorites to get in this year. When the 46 voters meet in New York on Feb. 1, the day before the Super Bowl, they will first cut the list from 15 to 10 and then from 10 to five. Once a candidate has made it to the final five, he needs 80% of the vote, which is considered a formality.

Former Giants GM George Young was on the list of 25, but did not make the final 15.
Four first-year candidates are in the final 15: Bucs LB Derrick Brooks, Bucs and Colts coach Tony Dungy, Colts WR Marvin Harrison and Seahawks T Walter Jones.
The other finalists are K Morten Andersen (he played for the Giants in 2001), RB Jerome Bettis, WR Tim Brown, former 49ers owner Ed DeBartolo, LB Kevin Greene, DE Charles Haley, S John Lynch, WR Andre Reed, G Will Shields and CB Aeneas Williams. Senior candidates DE Claude Humphrey and P Ray Guy are voted on separately.
The Class of 2014 will be announced at the NFL Honors event on Feb. 1 at Radio City Music Hall and then will be on the field for the coin toss for the Super Bowl. If Strahan is elected, he can expect a very warm welcome on what will surely be a very cold day.
There has been a strong New York connection to the induction ceremonies in Canton the last two years. In 2012, former Jets running back Curtis Martin was enshrined and former Giants and Jets coach Bill Parcells got in last year.
